What we collect
If you create an account, we store your email address. That is the only personal information we collect directly. Email is used for login, account recovery, and occasional product updates. You can request deletion at any time.
If you use the feedback button, we store the message text and whether you were logged in. No other personal information is attached to feedback.
The app logs basic usage data for reliability and debugging: query types, error rates, and response times. These logs do not contain personal information and are not sold or shared.
If you sign in, DaedalMap also stores session identifiers needed to keep you logged in across daedalmap.com and app.daedalmap.com. These identifiers are used only for authentication, session continuity, and account access across the two DaedalMap subdomains.
What we do not collect
DaedalMap does not use advertising networks, tracking pixels, or third-party analytics. We do not build profiles on users, sell data, or share personal information with third parties for marketing purposes.
Billing
Payments are processed by Stripe. DaedalMap does not store card numbers or payment details. Stripe's handling of payment data is governed by Stripe's privacy policy. We receive only a billing status and customer identifier from Stripe.
Data storage
Account data is stored in Supabase, a hosted database service. Logs are stored on Railway, the hosting platform. Neither is sold or shared with third parties for purposes beyond operating the service.
Cookies
DaedalMap uses login/session cookies and browser storage to keep you signed in if you create an account. These are used to maintain authenticated access across daedalmap.com and app.daedalmap.com. When the website sends you into the app, it uses an explicit one-time login handoff instead of long-lived shared auth cookies across subdomains. No advertising or tracking cookies are set by DaedalMap itself.
The current auth/session storage may include:
- session tokens needed to keep you signed in
- refresh tokens used to renew the session without forcing you to log in every page load
- browser local storage used by the auth client to maintain session continuity
- short-lived login handoff state when moving from the website into the app
These auth/session cookies are considered necessary for account login and account-linked app behavior. You can clear them by signing out or by clearing browser cookies and site storage.
Your rights
You can request deletion of your account and associated data at any time by contacting us. Your email will be removed and your account deactivated. Anonymized log data may be retained for system reliability purposes.
Contact
Questions about privacy can be directed to contact@daedalmap.com, through the feedback button on the app, or via the About page.
Terms of Use
Check the source. Always.
Every data result in DaedalMap includes the source it came from: the agency, the dataset, the coverage dates, and where to get the original. The system is built so you can read the source yourself, judge whether the answer is right, and act on your own assessment rather than taking the map at face value.
This matters most when the stakes are high. For anything involving emergency planning, infrastructure decisions, safety assessments, or resource allocation: look at the cited source. Compare it against other sources you trust. DaedalMap shows you where the data came from and makes it easy to go check. Trust, but verify.
What DaedalMap is
DaedalMap is an open geographic query engine. The runtime engine is open source under the MIT license. The hosted app and maintained data packs are provided as a service. You can use the public app as a guest, create an account for workspace persistence, or run your own deployment from the open GitHub repository.
Acceptable use
Use the service for legitimate geographic research, analysis, and exploration. Do not attempt to overload, scrape, or abuse the hosted API. Do not use the service to produce or distribute misleading or harmful information. Do not attempt to reverse-engineer or extract the maintained pack data in bulk.
Accounts
You are responsible for keeping your account credentials secure. DaedalMap reserves the right to suspend accounts that abuse the service. If you believe your account has been compromised, contact us immediately.
Open source engine
The DaedalMap runtime engine is available under the MIT license. You can inspect it, fork it, run it locally, and build on it. The maintained data packs and hosted infrastructure are not covered by the MIT license and are not freely redistributable.
No warranty
DaedalMap is provided as-is. Geographic data is drawn from public sources and maintained to a reasonable standard, but we make no guarantee of completeness, accuracy, or fitness for any particular purpose. Do not use DaedalMap as the sole basis for decisions involving safety, legal, or financial consequences.
Changes
These terms may be updated over time. Significant changes will be noted with a new effective date at the top of this page. Continued use of the service after changes constitutes acceptance.
